Happy Birthday, Kansas 2020

Sunflower State. Jayhawk State. Midway State. Or Wheat State.

Whatever you call her, today is the day to celebrate our favorite fly-over state.

Happy Kansas Day!

How are you celebrating?

In my house, we’ve got sunflowers in a vase, ribs on our dinner plates and a fresh loaf of homemade wheat bread in the oven. Alexa is playing Martina McBride and Melissa Ethridge on repeat all day long.

And the anticipation of the Chiefs playing in the Super Bowl this weekend is all we can talk about at the dinner table!

The Rockhill Real Estate Group team is full of several born-and-raised Kansas folks with the rest choosing to call this sweet state home. Check out the graphic to see the little towns and cities our agents and staff have roots in.

At our weekly meeting, we always begin with a “Question of the Day” and this week the question was “What’s your favorite thing or fact about Kansas” and I’m happy to share them with you.

Cindy- The plains and the prairies are the best!

Lori- The central location of KS in the US makes traveling to the coasts easy and convenient.

Roland- There is nothing better than a KS small town and their great people.

Melissa- A field of sunflowers. So pretty!

Jessica Kueker- All of the humble, caring and giving people.

Brooke- The best random fact I could find is the graham cracker is named after a Kansas preacher named Sylvestor Graham.

Summer- A big, fat thunderstorm

Katie- The distinct, and often, very extreme seasons.

Heather- The state meal of KS is more like a 12-course feast: it consists of fried okra, squash, cornbread, barbecued pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken fried steak, black eyed peas, and pecan pie.

Trish- My favorite part of Kansas is spending the evening watching the sunset at the lake.

Julie- All of the agriculture!

Jamie- The general and overall sense of community and amazing people that live here.

Jessica Kramer- I love all of the gravel roads!

Casie- A warm and wind-free evening in the spring when everything is so green!
